The 52-acre Laurel campus consists of academic and administrative buildings, and residential halls, all in a green, suburban environment. The academic halls are connected by glass-enclosed pedestrian walkways. The residential halls are apartment-style. Parking is free and readily available. The William G. McGowan Academic Center opened in fall 2005.
Capitol Technology University is located in Laurel, Maryland, midway between Washington, DC, and Baltimore. Just off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, the campus is near NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center and the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. The campus occupies the site of the former Beltsville Speedway
Students live in apartments from their first day on campus, which means you don't have to wait until you're an upperclassman to enjoy freedom from stuffy dorm rooms.
Housing Eligibility
All registered, full-time students are eligible to live in the residence facilities. Single-sex housing is enforced and access for people with disabilities is provided. Capitol guarantees housing for continuing students who meet the April 15 deadline.
Residence Halls
The six residential halls, which are named after scientists, are located at the entrance to the campus. Each of the 15 apartments houses six to eight students.
Each single-sex, 1,400-square-foot apartment has:
Carpeted bedrooms include wardrobes, desks, chairs, beds and dressers. All rooms are wired for cable television, telephone service (two jacks) and LAN access. Residents also have access to an on-site laundry area.
UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION
At Capitol Technology University, we provide relevant learning experiences — in engineering, computer sciences, information technologies and business — that lead to success in the evolving global community.
As an international student, you’ll appreciate our small class sizes, specialized degree programs and great location near Washington, DC. At this time, Capitol is only approved to admit international students for undergraduate programs.
Step 1: Review academic requirements
Review the academic requirements for first-time students or transfer students, whichever pertains to your situation.
International first-time students are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores. For transfer students, who have attended a college outside of the U.S. and wish to transfer credits into Capitol, transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service.
Step 2: Submit TOEFL or alternative
Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have it submitted to Capitol Technology University (minimum score of 79 required); submit proof of completing a specified level of proficiency at an English language school; or submit proof of satisfactory completion of English courses at an accredited university or college within the United States.
Step 3: Submit a statement of finances
You must submit proof of sufficient financial resources for living and educational expenses. Documents must be original and current (within six months of your anticipated start date). Proof of financial support can be:
If you are sponsored by individuals or family members, you must make a tuition deposit of $500 with Capitol Technology University prior to formal acceptance and issuance of an I-20 form (a form that certifies the student is eligible for “Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status”). An I-20 will be issued 10 to 14 days after the tuition deposit has been processed. Note that international students are not eligible for institutional scholarships or federal financial aid.
Step 4: Expect a decision within five week
You can expect an admissions decision within three to five weeks of submitting your completed application and necessary documents.
