About Macalester College
Since its founding in 1874, Macalester has provided students the inspiration, insight and experience to become successful and ethical leaders. Classes are taught by faculty whose passion is teaching and whose scholarship gains national recognition.

- Stretching for four miles through the neighborhood and meandering from the campus to the Mississippi River, Summit Avenue was named one of 10 "great streets" nationally by the American Planning Association in 2008. The boulevard is a favorite for walkers, joggers, and cross-country skiers.
Accommodation
ROOM AND ROOMMATE ASSIGNMENTS FOR NEW STUDENTS
All first-year and sophomore students are required to live on campus. The residence life program has great housing options as well as numerous social and learning opportunities for students based on their class year. Living in the residence halls provides:

- Resident Assistants to help you make the most of living on campus.
- Opportunities to be a leader and make a difference.
- The safety and convenience to live where you learn.
Your Room and Roommate Assignment
We'll do our best to assign you a room and roommate or possibly roommates (we have some triple and quad rooms) based on your preferences. If you are assigned to a residential first-year course, the course location may take priority over your hall or room-type preference. We don't encourage roommate requests, and of the mutual requests we receive, we can accommodate very few.
